With the arrival of May, comes the arrival of cold winter weather. Weather that wouldn’t be considered cold in the UK, but it’s considered cold here. Personally, it wouldn’t be considered cold if our house wasn’t full of holes and had paper-thin walls. BUT THAT’S HOW THEY BUILD HOUSES IN SYDNEY.
I am not kidding. Sydneysiders in winter sit huddled around a little heater in one room of the house. NO CENTRAL HEATING. So although 6 degrees doesn’t sound that cold – it BLOODY WELL IS.
So we bought our first heater – it’s basically like a radiator that runs on electricity. Being nieve Pommies we got a small one. We’ve since figured out that we need two of these things, so we’ve got a big one now too. Lowest temperature in the house so far = 13 degrees. We can’t work out whether we’ve acclimatised to the heat and so now feel cold – or whether it’s actually cold. Sydneysiders complain about the weather even more than Pommies – never thought that was possible!
