Brighton Le Sands

Sounds posh eh? Maybe not – take a Pommie seaside town and add a silly ending, and it becomes a Sydney suburb.

Brighton-le-sands is in the south of the city, and we went there in the afternoon, because it was hot and there is a beach. Many of Sydney’s beaches are too rough for weedy Pommies to swim in as the Pacific waves are very strong.

This beach is on Botany Bay, meaning that it’s very sheltered, and also that you have a great view of some heavy industry and lots of airplanes taking off. By the time we got there it had clouded over, and in true Sydney style started raining.

WE WERE DETERMINED POMMIES, and we went for a very brief swim, before giving up. Despite the rain and airplanes, the place had a bit of charm…
