Australia’s Highest Mountain

The main thing to do in Thredbo is go for a walk on the mountain. There’s a few good trails including the very popular one that goes up to the top of Mount Kosciuszko – which at 2228m high is the highest mountain in all of Australia.

YES – AND US POMMIES WERE GOING UP IT!

The walk starts from the top of the cable car (unless you walk up the mountain – which is possible, but a bit of a long day – we did walk down though on a very nice trail called Merritt’s Traverse)

The walk is only 13km there and back and it’s a pretty gradual climb (starting point is at 1930m ) so there’s tons of people doing it. We certainly weren’t the only Pommies up there that’s for sure! It was pretty windy – I even got out my woolly hat that I use in the Pommie winters! Pleasant walk – good views from the top of Australia!
