OK – the time had come for this Pommie to step up to the mark. The ramshackle paving stones scattered by our back door with big gaps inbetween and totally unsuitable for garden furniture – THEY WERE HISTORY.
The plan was to remove all the paving stones and mulch, flatten and level the area, and put the stones back down in a nice square. Ready for garden furniture – the dream of Poms across Australia everywhere! The taking up of the stones and mulch was achieved in record time thanks to Pommie strength and dedication.
The next step was to make sure that my intricate arrangement of coloured squares would go to plan. There were 7 large slabs and 82 small ones. 56 of the small ones were red, and all of the big ones were grey! OMG – it would require amazing natural Pommie genius to work out a beautiful, yet symmetrical arrangement.
Finally – let the clearing and laying commence!! Unfortunately this bit requires some hard work to level out the ground. I USED A SPIRIT LEVEL THOUGH! (borrowed from the next door neighbour – very nice they are – people here talk to their neighbours)
It was a slow start, but the first tiles were in place for the Pommie masterpiece that was going to be our new patio..
