Electronic Visas

Technology being what it is now, they often don’t bother to stick bits of paper in your passport anymore to say you are allowed in. Both me and MDF are visa-sticker less, and to authenticate us, we are looked up in a database – It’s called VIVO, and airlines, border people etc can use it to check your visa status. It’s tied to a passport number however, and MDF got a new passport before she came. She notified the authorities in London who issued the Visa, and they said that she had to carry both passports until she got to Australia and she could let them know and they could update their records.

IF IT IS ELECTRONIC, HOW COME IT HAS TO BE DONE AFTER WE GET TO AUSTRALIA?!

Surely they can update a database from the UK? Apparently not, so today MDF filled out the appropriate paperwork to have her new passport recognised. A bit weird, cos they apparently don’t send confirmation?! (She’ll be carrying both passports for the time being just in case!)
